FAMILY TREE

As we move through our daily experiences, each one of us is weaving a tapestry, an artistic representation of who we are and what we are becoming. The family that surrounds us, who teaches us, and shares the events of life with us tremendously influences the weaving. The tapestry however did not begin with the present generations; many generations have come before us. Having been affected by events of their time in history and the choices laid before them, they too, have influenced the design of the tapestry. Family Tapestry: an examination of family histories, immigration, personal choices, & heredity, Barbara Maley Yamamoto, Purfrock, 2005.

STORIES

Our family’s history takes the vast amount of oral & anecdotal story and tries to make sense of it. We shape the few remaining facts into something of meaning. We put the events into the perspective of the life and times of the people involved and celebrate their contribution to our own lives.

You cannot build bridges between the wandering islands;

The Mind has no neighbours, and the unteachable heart

Announces its armistice time after time but spends

Its love to draw them closer and closer apart.

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
